The purpose of this study is to report the clinical and radiological characteristics of peripheral nerve sheath tumors (PNST) of the oral and maxillofacial region, to present the oncologic prognostic factors and to identify the most appropriate imaging modality for early diagnosis and surgical planning. A retrospective analysis was performed in two medical centers between 2010 and 2014. Demographic, clinical, histological, and prognostic data were gathered from the clinical charts and radiological reports. A total of 40 PNSTs were included in this study. The most common location was the head and neck region (62.5%). More than half of the tumors (57.5%) were benign, with mean size of 2.7 cm. The most frequent benign pathology was neurilemmoma (65.3%). Patients with malignant PNSTs presented with more aggressive clinical characteristics than those with benign PNSTs (p = 0.015). The mean follow-up period was 9.8 months (range 0-54 months).
